Beacon by Monolith
Test on site. Sync later. Leave with the paperwork done.
Offline-first emergency lighting testing & logbook for UK contractors and competent persons — built for plant rooms, basements, and honest monthly and annual programmes.
Free in open beta · No card · Takes a few minutes to add a site
Built for contractors, competent persons, and multi-site managers.
The mess
Compliance shouldn’t live in WhatsApp and half-finished spreadsheets.
Most teams still stitch visits together after the fact. Due dates slip. Duration tests get “cleared” without a real discharge. Defects vanish into last month’s PDF.
- Paper logbooks and Excel that never match what’s on the wall
- Photos and notes scattered across phones with no site register
- Annual due wiped without timing every test switch
See Beacon
Field for the visit. Console for the office.
One organisation, one sync backend. Technicians work offline in the Field PWA. Managers oversee sites, history, team, and certificates on desktop.

How it works
Three steps from empty site to issued paperwork.
-
1
Add the site
Create a site or import fittings from a logbook spreadsheet. Set switches, Site IDs, and tracking.
-
2
Run the test
Monthly function or timed annual by test switch — offline in the Field app, with results as you go.
-
3
Issue & sync
Download the visit PIR or site periodic certificate. Sync when you’re back online. Due dates stay honest.
The paperwork
The same documents Beacon issues from a visit.
Sample previews of the real compliance layout — titles, refs, lettered sections, and sign-off. Issue these from a real visit in the app; once locked, the PDF matches what was signed on site.

Capabilities
Built for how emergency lighting is actually tested.
Specialist depth for monthly function and timed annual programmes — not a generic cert form with an EL template bolted on.
01 · Field
Installable Field PWA — works offline
Test in plant rooms and basements without relying on signal. Results stay on the device and sync to your organisation when you’re back online.
- Install from the browser — no App Store required
- Manual sync when you have coverage
- Same site data available in Console after sync
3 sessions · 12 fittings updated · ready when online
02 · Monthly
Monthly function tests with honest due dates
Pass or fail every fitting on the visit. Incomplete programmes don’t falsely clear monthly compliance — due stays visible until the work is done.
- Per-fitting results with notes and photos
- Programme progress on the site overview
- Clear monthly / annual status tones
03 · Annual
Timed annual duration by test switch
Run the rated discharge locked to the site design duration. Timers and full-switch coverage come before annual due clears — no ticking a box without a real test.
- 1 hour / 3 hour programmes from site setup
- Per-switch duration tracking
- Annual due only clears when switches are finished
04 · Documents
Three client-ready PDFs from the visit
Hand over a fitting test report, a visit Periodic Inspection Report, or a site periodic certificate — immutable once issued, with unique refs and history.
- Emergency lighting test report (fitting results)
- Visit PIR — see sample
- Periodic inspection & testing certificate — see sample
05 · Defects
Open defects register with photo evidence
Failures open a living register on the site. Later passes or manual close clear items — without rewriting paperwork you’ve already issued.
- Open count on site overview
- Photo evidence on findings
- Issued PDFs stay immutable
EL-018 Plant room — lamp failed to strike
EL-031 Car park — battery duration short
Needs attention before sign-off06 · Register
Spreadsheet import & living asset register
Map existing logbook columns into rooms, Site IDs, modes, and floors. The register carries forward visit after visit — you don’t rebuild the wall every month.
- Column mapper for CSV / spreadsheet import
- Site IDs, locations, switches, floors
- Assets stay linked to history and defects
07 · Setup
Site setup for BS 5266-credible records
Capture the responsible person, system type, design duration, ATS, and test-switch groups so timers and paperwork match the installation — not a blank form.
- Responsible person and client details
- Design duration and automatic test system
- Test switches that drive annual programmes
Duration 3 hours

08 · Console
Multi-site Console, team, audit & branding
Owners and managers see overdue monthly/annual status across sites, invite technicians, review mutation audit, and put company details on PDFs so packs look like your firm.
- Portfolio due tones and site history
- Team roles and invites
- Org branding on exports

- Issue a visit PIR from the test — no rewrite
- Keep monthly and annual due visible per site
- Import fittings from a logbook spreadsheet

FAQ
Questions before you try it.
Does Beacon work offline on site?
Yes. Field is a PWA built for plant rooms and basements. Record tests offline; sync when you’re back online. Console is for office use when connected.
Is this enough for BS 5266?
Beacon is BS 5266-aware: monthly and annual programmes, asset register, defects, visit PIR, and periodic certificate. It helps you record and issue supporting paperwork — duty-holders stay responsible for compliance. It is not a BSI product certification.
What’s the difference between Field and Console?
Field is the phone/tablet app for the visit — testing, defects, and history offline. Console is the desktop workspace for sites, team, audit, and certificates across the organisation. One login family, one sync backend.
Can I import an existing logbook?
Yes. Create a site and import fittings from a spreadsheet, then set switches, Site IDs, and tracking before you run the first test.
Do I need an App Store download?
No. Beacon Field installs as a progressive web app from the browser on phone or tablet. Console runs in the desktop browser. No card required to start the open beta.
What can I issue today?
From a completed visit you can issue a fitting test report and a visit PIR. For the site you can issue a periodic inspection and testing certificate. Issued documents are immutable once locked.
How much does Beacon cost?
Free during open beta. We’ll announce pricing before anything is charged — no surprise lock-in.
Where is my data stored?
Organisation data syncs to Beacon cloud (Supabase). Field can keep visit work offline on the device until you sync. See the privacy page for details.
